High quality care. Thoughtful support.
Get to know Colin, Tina, and Magnolia

Meet Colin, Tina, and Magnolia

Valley Counselling and Psychotherapy Services was founded by Tina Carby (RSW, MSW) and Colin Ellis (Registered Psychotherapist) in 2020. Magnolia joined the practice in 2023. They provide counselling virtually to Arnprior and Renfrew County.

Colin and Tina have dreamed of opening a practice that could offer high-quality counselling services since soon after they met in 2016. Tina has lived in Arnprior since 2011, and Colin has worked there since 2016. Magnolia is Ottawa Valley born and and raised, and has been working as a social worker here sine 2018. Their goal is to use their extensive experience to make mental health support accessible and local to Renfrew County. All three are committed to supporting and guiding individuals, couples, and families to the futures they want.

Colin Ellis

Reg. Pychotherapist, M.Ed., C.C.C.

I am a graduate of the University of Ottawa's Counselling Psychology program.  I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), as well as being a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). I have been providing counselling in primary care and private settings since 2016. I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD, Narrative Therapy and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I incorporate skills from a number of therapy models, but am most immersed in CBT and attachment approaches.

As a therapist I will hear your story and then collaborate with you to shift into the person you wish to become. Change starts with a ripple, and when you dip your toe in at your first counselling session you can expect kindness, useful tools and a listening ear. Regardless of what brings you to therapy, I'm excited to see how we can work together to get you on the path to wellness and change.

I look forward to speaking with you about your first step to mental wellness. I see individuals aged 16 and up. I am a registered Blue Cross provider. I practice independently and am unable to provide services under the supervision of a psychologist.

Social Worker MSW RSW

Seeking support for mental health concerns is not an easy thing to do. Whether you are looking for support for yourself alone, yourself and your partner, or for your family, allow me to share in your journey of mental wellness. It is a gift I do not take lightly. As a social worker, I'm dedicated to providing a safe space for you to explore the concerns you have addressed, and set goals to achieve them. Sometimes we are clear in what we need to work on and sometimes we need help in figuring it out.

I am a graduate of the University of Waterloo Master of Social Work and Health program.  I am a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) as well as the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). I have worked in primary care for over ten years, and am confident with evidence-based practice tools such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) and more. I have significant experience in the areas of anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorders, grief, relationships and many more.

I see individuals aged 12+, I am a registered Blue Cross provider.

Magnolia McCallum

Social Worker MSW RSW

I am beyond excited to join Tina and Colin and offer my therapeutic services at Valley Counselling and Psychotherapy Services! I am happy to assist with difficult emotions and life events, relationships, transitions, coping, and goal setting. I can help build understanding of the self and help you tap into your own inherent wisdom and resiliency.

I started my university education in psychology, then shifted to social work as the vision for my work shifted from individual assessment based services to providing more comprehensive services in therapy, healing, and health. I received my bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Ottawa’s own Carleton University, then went on to obtain my Masters’ in Social Work from the University of Waterloo. I am a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW). I am also a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW). I am a registered Blue Cross provider and enjoy working with our veterans and active Canadian Armed Forces members. I offer individual and couples counselling services to individuals aged 16 and up.

You will be welcomed to a space of safety, free of judgement, and met with unconditional positive regard. Remember: your current circumstances do not determine where you go, simply where you start. Let's collaborate to manage life's challenges and build the life you want to live.
